Their "feud" does have clan and ideological roots, but don't be misled by this. They work closely together. Kol tuv from Israel.... 	kazegol08 (3 years ago) They would be referring to the lesser Jihad (war) the Greater Jihad has absolutely nothing to do with war. Many people (even muslims) forget about, or ignore the greater Jihad. People have basically hijacked true Islam, created their own views to fit what they want to see in the world, and then it is those views that are noted by the media, and seems to be all most people know of about Islam.

	kazegol08 (3 years ago) You also mentioned Jihad, which is an extremely misunderstood term. Yes it can mean defending oneself and religion, BUT that is the LESSER jihad (yes there are two kinds). The greater jihad is trying to be a better person, a better muslim, NOT through war, but things like gaining knowledge, kindness, generosity, and piousness. People could start taking things out of context from the Bible or Torah, and it would sound just as violent as when things are taken out of context from the Qur'an.

Amillennialist: you quoted "fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) . . . " (Quran 9:5) Try reading the next part as well, " Yet, if a pagan asks you for asylum, Do grant him that, in order that he may Listen unto the Word of God; and then, Help him attain his place of refuge, For they are folks devoid of knowledge." (Qur'an 9:6) In Islam, (true Islam) you are not supposed to begin war, only defend yourself if attacked first.
	TUnderbakke (3 years ago) uberrealist, Just for the fun of it, I point out the scripture you cited declares it to a subset of people, namely the ones who have directly fought against Jersualem ("that have warred against Jerusalem"). The Quranic verses in question declare an offensive conflict, wheras the Old Testament verse you cited clearly defines the enemy as the one who has made the first strike. Now, I realize that there have been some crazy comments left, but I figured I'd address that point.

I can also pull out plenty of quotes from the Old Testament that are easily as warlike as the Qur'an quotes above. "And this shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite all the peoples that have warred against Jerusalem: their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth." -Zechariah, Chapter 14:12
