This is a video that I recorded many years ago because I knew that it was something special and one that I would want to keep and watch occasionally. So now with YouTube; it seems to be perfect for sharing "my favorite" old VHS videos with you! (As far as I know, this video is NOT available for purchase anywhere -in any store or online. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered posting it! (If it is available...please say so, and I'll go buy it!) ENJOY! The Video Samaritan
-This terrific TV show captured a live performance of the legendary band "Strength in Numbers" at the 17th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Produced by Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Inc./Mus!c Link Corp. 1991
Sam Bush - Mandolin Bela Fleck - Banjo Mark O'Connor - Violin Edgar Meyer - Bass Jerry Douglas - Dobro
Featured Songs: 1. The Lochs of Dread (By Bela Fleck & Jerry Douglas) 2. Blue Men of the Sahara (By Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer)
"Strength in Numbers is an all-star band in which the focus is on the group rather than on individual performances. Each member is recognized as a highly influential master of his instrument. After working together in various combinations through the 1980's on each other's solo albums and on music festival stages, they decided in the summer of 1988 to unite their five creative visions. The result is a unique style of music that owes as much to classical concepts of arrangement and theme development as it does to popular concepts of virtuoso hot licks. Acoustic music's greatest musicians have gathered here for the musical event of the year." (From: Strength in Numbers - The Telluride Sessions, MCA Recording CD Liner notes.)
THE TELLURIDE FESTIVAL - "Considered one of the country's most progressive annual bluegrass festivals, the Telluride festival has grown to be a premier world event since the first one in 1974. In recent years, the festival has expanded to include musicians who play jazz, rock, country, folk, pop, world, celtic, newgrass, as well as bluegrass, sometimes blending different styles. The festival embraces the celebration of music in one of the country's most spectacular settings-San Juan Valley."
"The Telluride festival audience, called festivarians, are not only enthusiastic, but loyal, some making this event an annual vacation. The festival is limited to 10,000 people a day, and sells out a little earlier each year. Among musicians who have played the festival throughout the years are Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Tim O'Brien, Peter Rowan, Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice, John Cowan, and David Grisman. Newer regulars are Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Shawn Colvin." (From a web article by: Wayne Allard, Senator.)

This is a classic music video which routinely aired on Country Music Television (CMT) beginning in 1990. Produced by Warner Brothers, it features Mark O'Connor & The New Nashville Cats playing "Bowtie" the theme to a great show known as "The American Music Shop." (1990 - 1993)
Leading the band, is the Legendary Grammy Award-Winning Violinist and World-Class Fiddler: Mark O'Connor!
"Bowtie" by Mark O'Connor
Please check my accuracy on these band members names (if you know for sure). The New Nashville Cats: Mark O'Connor, Fiddle Jerry Douglas: Dobro Matt Rollings, Keyboards Brent Rowan, Electric Guitar Glenn Worf, Electric Bass Harry Stinson, Drums "The American Music Shop featured a different artist each week. Concerts were given in a small, intimate theater and recorded live. In addition to the artists' own bands, the American Music Shop band accompanied the performers, giving these concerts a unique sound." (Written by Jason A. Cormier -IMDB Website)
I also whole-heartedly agree with the following author: "The American Music Shop was one of the greatest music shows ever! Even now, No show has given us the variety and talent that was aired on this program. Heavy's from Country, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Zydeco, would give these amazing performances with as much energy as being at their live shows. The production and sound quality was far superior to any thing CMT could ever do today. I still regularly watch the shows I was lucky enough to have taped. After the show had ended, I asked Jerry Douglas and Mark O'Connor if they missed doing the show, both said "yes". I wish that the powers that be would sell the shows to syndication. That way, more of the world could enjoy the rich flavor this varied musical flow gave us each week when it aired". (Written by Pnai -IMDB Website User Comment)

"Return to Dismal Swamp" has been out of CMT's circulation for many years now, but it's always fun to watch and a great song as well! At least the CD is still available and there is excellent banjo instruction of this song (and more!) offered online by the Master himself...John McEuen! So, ENJOY! The Video Samaritan
A comment about the song: A Variety of traditional country and bluegrass sounds, the one "must hear" track is "Return to Dismal swamp." I for one being raised in Georgia near the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and around bluegrass music as a major music influence, this is one of...if not the epitome of Bluegrass from one of the best! (Web comment submitted by John -Dalton, Georgia, USA)
Best known for his long tenure as a key member of the venerable Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John "The String Wizard" McEuen was one of the most influential figures in contemporary American country, bluegrass and even pop music. Credited with introducing both the banjo and the mandolin to pop, he was a master string player who developed a devoted fan base on the festival circuit.
Musicians: Five-String Banjo: John McEuen Mandolin: Sam Bush Flat-Pick Guitar: David Grier Acoustic Bass: Roy Huskey Dobro: Jerry Douglas Fiddle: Stuart Duncan Synthesizer: David Hoffner
"Return To Dismal Swamp" By John McEuen From Vanguard Records LP -String Wizards A Country Music Television (CMT) Production, 1991.

"The Road" was another great music show that CMT produced from 1994 to 1997. Every week, this show featured many artists from all over the "musical map." Unfortunately, I can't find ANY info on any of these shows and where I can buy them! So, hopefully one day...the producers will get these episodes on DVD and get the word out!
This particular show aired: 3/3/95 and featured Nanci Griffith; Bela Fleck; Marty Stuart. (All I have is Bela's Performance-sorry!)
