There is a fork available which has Gnome 3 preinstalled on top of Ubuntu (sorry, I forget the name of the fork) and I haven't tried that.

I do want to point out that Ubuntu 11.10 will have many improved features to 11.04 on Unity making it look far more professional and looks a looooooot better...
