Great Chefs Event 2012

2,128 views 1 year ago
The greatest chefs from around the world meet again at the Urban Outfitters Headquarters in the Navy Yard to support great causes in both the Vetri Foundation and Alex's Lemonade Stand.

The Vetri Foundation employs Eatiquette, the Vetri Method for school lunch. It aims to transform a child's lunch from the traditional cafeteria assembly line to an environment where children gather around round tables, pass plates of food to one another, and experience social interaction and communication. Family style eating creates an interactive environment where kids don't just eat lunch, they dine. Teachers and adult volunteers model for students how to set a table, how to work together as a team, how to try new foods.
Children learn to serve each other, to respect those who prepared their food, and to appreciate how healthy food can make you feel. They leave the lunch room fueled up both physically and psychologically, ready to tackle the afternoon's learning challenges.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
