I have just read the most fabulous book, and I have the sneaking suspicion that it is about our hero. The name of the book is EL REY: A NOVEL OF RENAISSANCE IBERIA. I got it on Amazon, and by the end of chapter 1, you know it's him. By the end of chapter 3, you won't be able to put it down. There are hints scattered throughout the book, and anyone who knows Steve's history as well as you do will be able to see the clues for what they are. You can read first six chapters for free. The book is an awesome story, and anyone who is a fan of Steve's needs to check it out. I feel that it is my duty to my fellow Perry fans to spread the word as much as I can. Hope you look for it.
