New illustrated childrens book follows adventures of three young dolphins

The Adventures of the Thundering Whales: The Dreaded Weaved Catcher by marine life artist Stephen Vadakin seeks to inform young readers about ocean creatures

WAUKESHA, Wis. The Adventures of the Thundering Whales: The Dreaded Weaved Catcher, a childrens book by Stephen Vadakin, shares the story of three young dolphins and their encounter with a dangerous weaved catcher, or fishing net.

When Thunder the dolphin becomes caught in a net and falls far, far down into the ocean depths, his friends Flukie and Sapphire do not know what to do. Thunder soon falls too deep for his companions to follow, deeper than any dolphin has fallen before. When Thunders magical medallion around his neck illuminates, he is now in a protective bubble of air. An underwater earthquake occurs drawing Thunder into a vast cave system deep into the earth where he meets hundreds of friendly creatures led by Big Sid the squid. Meanwhile, Flukie and Sapphire enlist the help of many of their marine life friends to find their friend. Thunder must survive the deepest depths of the ocean before he can return to his home near the surface.

I hope this book can inspire readers and encourage them to ponder how ocean creatures communicate among one another just as humans do, Vadakin says. I also wanted to stress the importance of how both humans and other creatures can come together in times of crisis to help one another.

This is the first in a planned series of childrens books about the three dolphins and their adventures. The book also features full-color illustrations depicting each character and important scenes. Intended to educate as well as entertain, chapter conclusions include a list of word definitions to help young readers understand key terms.

About the Author
Stephen T. Vadakin is a writer and marine and wildlife artist who creates sculptures utilizing the mediums of wood and bronze. As a young child, Vadakin was diagnosed with severe dyslexia. His passion for marine life and sailing helped him overcome many of the challenges his dyslexia created and helped him to develop creatively. Vadakin is also the founder of a marine science program for school children in the Midwest called the Great American Dolphin and Whale Tour. To date, the program has reached thousands of young people with an engaging message about the oceans and marine life. He has also created an educational childrens TV show.
