I agree. All of the great conservatives from the last century are dying off and only Gingrich and Romney stand as men who have fire in the belly.

What will become of the conservative movement? I say we have to rebuild and if it means we have to bear with 4 years of Barack Obama, then so be it.

I too am feeling the loss of a great conservative today. Bill Buckley stood heads and shoulders above the fray as a leader who pushed the cause forward. I shared some of my thoughts on my blog about him and his legacy, I don't know if you read it but needless to say I am missing him already.

Conservatism is in retreat. Romney is the only standard bearer for conservatism at the moment. He doesn't have a movement behind him.

Newt Gingrich and Romney will be building the conservative movement and it will take years to heal from the mess that republicans have made the last few years. 2010 is a long shot, but Nixon pulled it off for Republicans in 1966. The party made a comeback that year when Nixon campaigned in 22 states for candidates.

Let's wait and see.

Well South Carolina and the rest of the country are angry at the Bush administration. On the border, medicare, education and healthcare, Bush moved to the left. On the economy oil prices and jobs are going over seas, and the picture of Bush walking with a Saudi monarch just doesn't fit well.

The Bush/Dole coalition that has run the republican party and who is the majority ruling class, doesn't have a strong candidate. Fred Thompson was their man, but he looks to be getting out tomorrow. Mitt Romney is the closest thing to Fred, but his Mormon faith loses credibility with evangelical voters.

I see a McCain/Huckabee ticket for 2008. Unless Romney and Giulanni can make a dent out here in the Southwest, you are looking at that ticket.

It will be a rowdy Republican Convention, but I think a deal can be brokered behind closed doors. We could very well see Tancredo, Hunter, Thompson, Giullani and Romney serve in a McCain/Huckabee administration.

Mike Huckabee is all style and no substance. He has a record of tax incrreases and he destroyed the republican party in Arkansas. The media is ripping into him like they did Romney and Giulanni.

Fred Thompson is the consistent conservative, who has not shifted policy on the border.

No one is going to live up to Reagan's legacy. That's what makes America great.

We always have the right leader at the right time. We are a blessed nation.

Bush's administration is not over and already historians are trying to destroy him. He will be redeemed over time.
