This workshop is aimed to help those who want to understand the culture values, the challenges they face, and the adjustments the Somali students need. UACT Conference '09 - Mexican American Lit Playlist
How can teachers help to educate all students while creating a classroom community that fully includes Mexican students? Books are a great way to start. Using young adult and children's literature, this workshop will explore the history of Mexico and Mexican-Americans, from colonial times through the present. Major themes in immigration, the relationship of the US and Mexico and education will be the focus. Special attention will be paid to the demographics of Mexican-American students in Minnesota schools and these issues as they impact that population. Featured titles will be appropriate for upper elementary through high school use.
