Instead of a conventional coiled spring, air rifles offered by Umarex that are equipped with a ReAxis gas piston are powered by nitrogen. Unlike other nitrogen-filled gas pistons, the ReAxis is reversed in Umarex rifles—meaning the gas strut is turned 180 degrees on its axis so that the larger mass of the strut pushes the piston instead of the rod; thereby generating more power, which equates to an increased velocity and impact than that provided by other gas pistons. The ReAxis gas piston provides pellet rifles with a smooth and constant cocking effort, reduces felt recoil, lowers the air rifle's noise level, minimizes stock vibration, and provides a consistent powerful velocity over its lifetime. All of these features, as a result of the ReAxis Reversed Axis Gas Piston, contribute to a shooter's ability to achieve precise shot placement.
