From Birmingham UK, the Tierney brothers formed UXL over three years ago with friend Dan Clark and have evolved into an intriguing combination of energy and melody that draws on the varied musical influences of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and U2. UXL are essentially a melodic rock band with an epic sound but they can do controlled minimalistic, pop-rock, semi-acoustic and just about everything inbetween. One BBC music journalist recently described their sound as: 'Swaggering anthemic rock with soaring vocals.' Indeed frontman John Tierney's vocals have caused much comment, 'Extraordinary blues drawl. . .keep an ear out for THAT voice.' Channel 4

Remarkably, half of the foursome are still only teenagers, yet they have accomplished many things in their time together as a band.
They have played to over 20,000 people at Sandwell Festival supporting McFly, recorded an acoustic session at the BBC studios, and met and chatted to Metallica's FOH sound engineer the legendary big Mick Hughes who described UXL's frontman John Tierney as having 'one of the most powerful voices he had ever heard.' Last year UXL were invited to support Wishbone Ash at Cambridge which was hailed as a great success and valuable experience for the young band. Slots at Barfly, Cambridge Rock Festival, Birmingham Arts Festival, In The City Manchester, as well as many radio acoustic sessions and interviews followed.

UXL have also attracted interest from the film and leisure industries. A London based film company had heard UXL's music and were keen to use it in a romantic comedy film called 'Girl 23' shot in the UK earlier this year. The film was screened at The Cannes Film Festival 2007 and included UXL's song 'Beautiful Today' in the opening and closing sequences. Following charismatic London performances at The Camden Underworld and Islington Academy, Quiksilver Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers of surfwear and other boardsport-related equipment chose UXL to feature on a Quik Sessions CD to be distributed throughout Europe in Quiksilver stores.

On the back of their memorable live performances, UXL were invited to support legendary rockers Magnum on the UK leg of their European Tour earlier this year. Formed in 1972, Magnum have achieved wide acclaim including many chart successes and their famous opening of the Monsters of Rock Festival alongside ZZ Top, Bon Jovi, Marillion and Metallica. Magnum had heard UXL's music and were very impressed asking the tour manager to invite them along as support. The tour incorporated nine top UK venues and UXL had an amazing response from the crowds and reviewers. A very successful summer of festivals followed.

UXL's debut album 'Can I Dream Again?' was recorded at M2 at Mad Hat Studios in Wolverhampton and released recently on the independent Mab Records label. Producer Mark Stuart has worked with some of the most influential people in rock music including Phil Lynott, Steve Lillywhite and Robert Plant. The album has attracted some impressive reviews,

UXL are getting widespread radio airplay in America and the track 'Make It' from the album 'Can I Dream Again?' and reached number 4 in the Indie charts.

UXL were invited by the President of Canadian Music Week to play at CMW March 2008, Canada's largest entertainment event. UXL are soon to be on the road again after being invited to tour Switzerland, Germany and Czech Republic with Magnum in May 2008.
