UCO JAZZ LAB CHOSEN 'BEST' BY READERS OF THE OKLAHOMAN AND OKLAHOMA GAZETTE

Readers of The Oklahoman and the Oklahoma Gazette selected the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab, located at 5th & Littler in Edmond, as a winner in their annual readers' choice awards.

Ballots appeared in both newspapers, asking readers to nominate their favorite people, places and events in dozens of categories. Readers then chose the winners in each category, naming the Jazz Lab as "Best Place for Jazz/Blues Music" in The Oklahoman and "Best Local Live Music Club" in the Oklahoma Gazette.

The Jazz Lab opened seven years ago and houses the award-winning UCO Jazz Studies Program and a state-of-the-art recording studio.

Since its debut, it has hosted such musical greats as Maynard Ferguson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Diane Schuur, Chick Corea, Judy Collins and Wynton Marsalis. Jazz trumpet great Chris Botti is scheduled to play two shows at the Lab at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Sept. 11.
