A light of hope has been lit in the otherwise infected debate between the ex-gay and LGBTQ-movement.
Exodus International President Alan Chambers is happy to affirm LGBT Christians as his brothers and sisters in Christ, at least according to his opening gambit at the GCN conference last week:
"I honestly trust [GCN leader Justin Lee], and I honestly like him, and I honestly believe that he loves Jesus and that we are brothers in Christ and that we will spend eternity together ... and because of that, the thing that brought me here first and foremost is: We're Christians, all of us. We may have diverging viewpoints ... but the thing that brings us together, the thing that causes us to even want to have this dialogue, or need to have this dialogue, is the fact that we all love Jesus. We all serve him. We serve the very same God and believe very different things".
Have we not heard that argument before? Oh, yes, "You can still be a Jew even if you convert to Christianity", "You don't give up your Jewishness, you will become a fulfilled and accepted Jew!"
Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose "an enemy of the Roman people" to represent the "Lord of Misrule." Each Roman community selected a victim (mostly Jews) whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival's conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.
It's of most importance that we learn about the early history of Christianity, without judgement, because the reason is not to scapegoat Christianity's early history as more sinister than any other ideology or religion, but the Christian history has distinguished itself for being filled with an almost Pharisaic eagerness to convert people to Christianity.
Bryan Fischer, in his news show "Focal Point" hooks on the news and dilutes addition to his anti-gay analysis, quote: "My point is that this makes ALL Homosexuals a THREAT to our NATIONAL SECURITY!"
Fischer goes on with: "They are five times more likely to have mental health issues, than heterosexuals. That is another reason why we sholuld NOT have Homosexuals in the Military!"
Background: In May 2010, Bradley Manning, a gay US soldier, who was stationed in Iraq, was arrested on suspicion of coming over restricted material that he handed over to WikiLeaks. The material were among others, videos from an air strike in Iraq against civilians (the video can be found on the Internet, even here on YouTube).
