Tierra Ashli Smyth (December 6 1979), who performed under the mononym Ty (pronounced /əˈliːə/), is an American recording artist, actress and model. She was born in New London, Connecticut , and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. Ty was born to Elise ,a White British woman, and Micheal who is of Native American , and African-American Decent.Ty attended Gesu Elementart a private catholic school on the suburbs of Detroit and later went on to major in Dance at The Detroit School of performing arts holding a 4.0 average. In Fall Of 1995 her friend , recording Artist Aaliyah , set her up with an audition for her uncle's recording company 'Blackground Records' and Ty was signed on the spot.Barry Hankerson then set her up with an auditon to appear on the 'Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air' where Ty would play a Wills love interest aswell as Ashleys friend.Ty apperead for 2 episodes and was criticised as Ty was only 15 and Will was nearly 30 years of age.In 1996 Ty hit the studio with producers such as Timbaland and Missy Elliot to produce her debut album.Due to the sucsess of Aaliyah's album they decided to wait til Ty was 17 going on 18 in 1998 to realese her debut.But Blackground left Atlantic Records and had no distributon deal for Ty to realease on so Blackground recorded a high-budget video for the first single 'Body Talking' it had limited sucess as no promotion could be afforded as there was no deal behind Blackground.It reached to top 40 of the R&B Chart peaking at 42 and 60 on the Billboard Hot 100.Although it was a top-ten single on the Urban Radio Charts peaking at number ten.Blackground was offered a distribution deal with Virgin EMI but unfortunatly due to them wanting to sign Aaliyah and few others Ty ,and two others, were dropped and her debut album 'Ty' was Shelved. In 2000 Ty picked her self up and modelled for the likes of Vogue and Elle magazine demanding top dollars aswell as signing on to top modelling agency Willhelimina Models and Ty then became the face of many products such as Clean and Clear and Tommy Hilfiger.Then Ty married her high-school sweet heart Thomas , An accoutant , in 2004 and Ty gave birth to their son Jubari Thomas James Smyth.Unfortunatly disaster struck when her husband was killed in 2006 and his murdeder never found.He was thought to be killed as he was of White British Decent and Ty was Multi-Racial. In late 2007 Ty decided enough was enough and landed another recording contract with Harlowe Down Records to produce her new album.In 2009 Her single "My House" was a european dance/R&B hit although it failed to chart in the USA.The next single will be 'Over It' which is due for a realease mid 2010. Her new album Electronic Sacrifice Will be released In Europe Later this year.
