Your PBR would be much quicker and sound ALOT better with the original power...twin 12V71 Detroit Diesels (2 cycle)...which at approximately 3200 lbs per engine would sit your PBR lower in the water & with the hp (approx. 450 per engine @ 2,500 rpms) would have given you faster throttle response ...

Other than ridiculous fuel consumption...it would be a blast on a Go-Kart.. but, in a mini dragster, it would only need fuel for a 1/4 mile !! Hmmm...good used APU's are Not, that expensive or hard to obtain,either..and they produce gobs of shaft hp in a small & light weight package.

@LarryCanFly Why not use JP3 or 4..would be cleaner, more lubricity for the turbine and would produce higher Btu's = more power. Yes ? Great project..don't give up !

That is definitely a "sneezed" turbo...and the white smoke thereafter, is a good sign of water in the cylinders..whether because of a blown head gasket, or cracked injector cup or ???

He might have been at Run / Notch 8 until the crest of the span.. but then he notched it down to idle and was coasting before he reached you with the camera...but, good video & sound quality..

@teamwounder The Prime Mover directly runs the Alternator (or) Generator, supplying current DIRECTLY to the drive motors..of which there are (usually) either 4 or 6 depending on whether there are 2 or 3 axle "trucks".. with a few exceptions being the UP "Big Blow" Turbines of the 50's & their EMD...

Thanks for the correction...I wasn't aware at the time I replied..of the overhaul..and about a month later I ran into a friend of mine who is somewhat connected with Steve Lee (in charge of the UP Steam Program & Shop)..and he informed me of the Overhaul & repowering of the E-9...

"Do Not Hump" refers to when...making up trains..SOME freight yards have a section of track, that when viewed from the side, resembles an "overpass" (or HUMP) like a roadway over RR tracks..and when the "cars" are at dead center..are released and the downward motion gives them sufficient momentum...
