So I managed to avoid the worst of the crash, And while I think Australia is pretty sound economically, There is evidence that Sydney will experience a property "correction" soon. And yes, politicians the world over seem hell bent on destroying the middle class, and just kowtowing to the bankers, big oil, big pharma ect. Its clear a pan global elite have co opted gov't the world over.

That may yet turn out to be a blessing! The same thing happened here, Prices were fuelled by speculation and a mad rush to get onto the ladder. Everyone was urging me to invest, trade up from my little one bed apt. I was uneasy with the way it looked from 2006 onwards. Now prices have dropped by 50% plus, leaving so many trapped with huge debts and negative equity. You might be thankful in a year or two you escaped that trap.
