The Triangle Brass Ensemble was formed in 2007 as an extension of the Triangle Youth Brass Band. This additional ensemble provides more students with the opportunity to develop their skills as musicians in a youth brass band program. The TYBE's mission is to provide an opportunity for the finest area high school brass and percussion players to supplement their wind band experience by performing in a brass ensemble and to raise the level of brass playing in the area.Membership in the band is by recommendation and audition only and the performing season lasts from November to May each year. Along with the TYBB the TYBE performs it's concerts at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts' Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. The TYBE performs a variety of repertoire chosen from the standard and contemporary British brass band literature as well as arrangements and transcriptions of wind band and orchestral works. The youth program also sponsors clinics and masterclasses with guest artists and conductors and hosts Brassmas, a December event in which middle and high-school students from all over the Triangle area perform an outdoor concert of holiday music.
Since its inception, the TYBE has already established a tradition of excellence in performing. The TYBE attended the NABBA Championships in the new Youth Open division, winning 1st place in 2007, 2008, and 2009 and competed in the open section in 2010.
