With the music industry having its ups and downs, Michael "Mike T" Tingle's love for music has sustained his devotion for writing, producing and performing the best in music.
Currently, as bandleader and guitarist for Très Blaq, Michael continues to produce sounds that fuse the melodic elements of jazz, with the innovation and flamboyance of rock that is blended with the heavy, insistent beat of funk.
While collaborating with fellow musicians such as the late Carol MacDonald of Buddah and United Artist records and ISIS fame and PEOPLES Terry Gamble, Michael has also worked and traveled the globe extensively with the master of the B3 Hammond- the late South Philly native Charles Earland. Locally, Michael has had the pleasure of working with working with McFadden & Whitehead, Frank Bey, Gloria Allende, Breakwater's Harry Lindsay and saxman of the Blue Notes- Big Bill Williams as well as vocalist Pam Mitchell-Knight, Philly's jazz finest Toni Washingtn, and Shirley Lites of the Shirley Lites Band.
Inspired by the audiences at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Blues Alley in DC, Cobo Center (formerly Cobo Hall) in Chicago, the Club Mozambique in Detroit and the Bottom Line in NYC have had the pleasure of watching Michael crank up the reverb to produce the many sounds of his beloved guitar "Selena".
In the Tri-State area before closing their doors, Michael had the pleasure of playing at the historic Khyber, Five Spot and Doc Watson's. Always being the fan favorite, and loving the outdoor festival atmosphere, Michael has set up and jammed in Clarke, Fairmount Park and Vernon Parks as well the annual West Oak Lane Arts and Jazz Festival. Local indoor venues include the Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing and the Kimmel Center for the
Performing Arts, the New Palladium Nightclub and monthly at the Sound of Philadelphia/TSOP Experience.
Always committed to giving back, Michael has headlined for numerous non-profits including the yearly holiday event for Artists for Recovery. Other non-profits that Michael has supported include the Nile Swim Club, the Carousel House, and the Fatherhood
Initiative/Head Start and Odunde. Working with Adam Monaco, Michael helped to spearhead the Obama Blitz in the City of Philadelphia. He has also performed on the Philadelphia Belle.
Mike feels that even though technology has changed the way music is written, produced and heard, it is important to expose our youth to actual instruments and live music. Being able to plug up and perform in front of an audience creates a scintillating musical journey for both himself and the audience he is serving.
