@demotricus fuel tank test - it can run various shapes & baffle configurations of clear tanks through the equivalent of a "standard" road circuit for days, but you can see exactly how your changes alter the flow & contain any leaks easier.

@manhill simpler control coordination - you'd need precise collective & cyclic control on each rotor to break the pitch / yaw interactions in a tandem rotor. It's easier to reuse two of their existing contrarotating mechanisms than to try to figure out the feedback equations.
