At the beginning of the 20th Century a new musical direction was emerging in New Orleans, the most cosmopolitan city in the American South since the 1820's. The rich mixture in its population had African and Caribbean roots, and were influenced by a diversity of Creole, Cajun and Southern Baptist music as well as European Opera. Musicians, trained both classically and on the street, were drawing from a number of sources - Ragtime, Spirituals, Work Chants, Blues, Military Marches, and were creating a new, uniquely American art form - Jazz.The Route 66 Revelers celebrate Dixieland music, also known as Traditional Jazz. We jam regularly at the Rio Grande Jazz Society in Albuquerque. Our basic rule is "If it sounds good, we want to play it." You can meet us at
