Mike Heaton, retired teacher and the an behind http://TorontoBMX.ca build all these ramps and has the goal of kids using them year round in the downtown area of Toronto. For the past three summers, an outdoor home on the outdoor skating rink at Wallace Emerson Community Centre, 1260 Dufferin St, Toronto has been a great thing for the kids and the community. In the summer of 2008, Toronto Community Housing Corporation under the leadership of Barry Thomas got involved with these ramps, along with a one time event funded by the Young President's Organization.. which saw many of these BMX Bike Ramps move to an outdoor location for the kids at 75 Tandridge Cr, Toronto. The summer was so successful that a once doubting youth worker named 'Spin' from TCHC has now stated publicly that these BMX ramps are the best project he has ever seen for kids in TCHC.

Cst Scott Mills, Toronto Crime Stoppers Youth Officer / Toronto Police Service Legal Graffiti Art Coordinator is recording this video and posted this video. He has the goal of providing challenging BMX riding for youth in Toronto to keep kids out of trouble and foster good relations between the cops and the kids. He also coordinates many graffiti projects with youth on the theme of Graffiti - Community Building. He needs a place to do the art work year round that can be called 'home' .. a place for the kids to come... and do positive graffiti work .. along with the cops.. and not vandalize our city.

Peter Leiss is the supervisor at Lamport Stadium for the city of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Dept. He likes the ideas above.. and has been trying to facilitate things behind the scenes to make it all work out.

Veronique from Kids Cops and Computers http://MerryGoRound.ca has been facilitating a contact at MLSE for Scott Mills and Mike Heaton, and we are in the process of putting our collective heads together to speak with that contact about our ideas.. hence the creation of this video.. so that the idea can be effectively communicated... and hopefully it will happen!!

Mike Heaton and Scott Mills have learned that Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) .. the people who own the Toronto Maple Leafs.. and TorontoFC Soccer Club- respected and responsible corporate citizens in Toronto.. have leased Lamport Stadium during the winter months to provide an indoor bubble for youth soccer programs.

Construction is under way to get the bubble in place for this winter.

Reality is.... under the stands at Lamport Stadium is a perfect place for a small indoor BMX Park.. if a wall were knocked out, a suitable door installed, the floor paved, and some fire code issues were brought up to par. This could all be accomplished with a small amount of money, time and direction.

The reality would be a heated indoor location that Mike could build ramps in with kids year round, kids could drop by and help build the ramps, Scott could have kids do legal graffiti on the ramps and walls inside year round.... and get kids interested in graffiti doing it in a constructive way...

The benefit for the cops and Crime Stoppers is that all of this can continue to be showcased on the Toronto Crime Stoppers Social Media network -- and as a result the trust in the anonymity and value of the Toronto Crime Stoppers program has increased drastically .. to the point that all time world records are being set for the number of tips received -- over 1,000 tips a month are now being received by Toronto Crime Stoppers - up from 350 three years ago.
