I would not say he was a great actor. He mostly played Cary Grant in his films.

McPherson is played by Richard Barthelmess, a great star of the silent and early sound era.

Barthelmess made his last picture in 1940, enlisted in the Navy and retired after the war living on his investments.

Grant to Arthur ... "You're a queer duck."

Must be a 1930's expression :).

@bryandawkins Unfortunately, he doesn't get the girl.

@koln1996 Yes, quite underrated at an time that many performers could not make the transition to sound.

And many of those that did appear in sound pictures failed to adapt to a new, more understated style of acting.  Even Barthelmess tends to overact in many of sound pictures at times.

He was a heavy smoker.
