Snakes that aren't that hungry tend to enjoy the warmth that their warm-blooded fast metabolism prey provide them. In this case the prey is too large for the snake, but if hungry enough, the snake WILL eventually attack it. Stop feeding it other smaller prey and the hamster eventually gets it.
