You will, head and shoulders above me, know what to do when you travel to Japan -- besides you've friends there and already well-versed in Japanese. All I can do is reminisce (so LONG AGO) beautiful memories when you mention Nara, Hikone and Himeji, Kamakura and Nikko, Tokyo, especially onsen in Hakone and Atami and ryokans thereof.
You'll somehow find ways to stay in Japan -- that, I'm sure.
You can teach English or French and if you're a personable Gaijin, which you seem to be, it helps.
We ALL get what we TRULY desire -- it's a matter of TIME.

Merci!

Thank you for dropping-by. We lived in Kyoto, Japan for two separate years while my husband was doing research at Kyoto University -- visited all the temples, Gion, Kyoto-Kaikan...We travellled all over Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu on trains, ferries; bathed in hot-springed "traditional Japanese inns" inhaling all the tradition Japan has to offer from eats( esp. Bento, Udon, Shabushabu), tatami ... Love Japanese children's songs, films, their garden, festivals (Gion-Matsuri)...; LOVE ALL that's Japan. SO LONG AGO it was... As Pascal noted I keep that BEAUTY in my inner-most, enriching, never to part. Esther-san, so cultured, as Blake noted "you were born with sweet-delight." KIMY
Glad to have encountered this SUBLIME backdrop before the sun sets on YouTube.
So Japanese, so ZEN... delicate, spare, quiet inner-beauty captured (-_-) ...
Am I as you concerning Japanese culture and aesthetics.
Take care, fellow wayfarer,
KIMY
