There is no swinging down to the ball. The bat head has to drop is order to get behind the ball and great players get behind the ball.
"He is coming down to the point of contact, trying to hit the top half of the ball."
If he came down to the ball and hit the top half of the ball I don't think it would go up. It would go into the dirt.
