About this user

Born in 1990 in Marquette, Michigan, Thomas LaVoy began composing seriously during his freshman year of high school, following in the inspirational footsteps of his older brother, Lucas. After studying informally with composer James Hansen, Thomas produced a number of choral and instrumental scores, many of which were performed at local schools and churches, State Vocal Solo and Ensemble Festival and Northern Michigan University. In the Spring of 2008, Thomas won an honorable mention in the New York Virtuoso Singers Composition Competition. The January 11, New York premiere of "White Stones," a collaboration with poet Esther Margaret Ayers, was the first performance of his work in the professional field. "White Stones" has recently been accepted for publication on the Harold
Rosenbaum Choral Series by G. Schirmer. Thomas is currently a Sophomore theory and composition major at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. Recently, he has been commissioned by the Brighton High School Bel Canto choir in Brighton, Michigan. Thomas is a founding member, conductor, and composer of The Westminster New Music Ensemble, a volunteer student organization at Westminster Choir College.
