What kind of output transformer did you use? The one spec'd in the design, or something else?

Rather than using zip ties to clamp the board to the neck use elastic surgical tubing - it is easier to apply, provides more, and more even tension, plus it is re-usable.

I don't think he's tuned down so much as they slowed the track down when cutting the master. I've never seen him play the song live at such a mellow pace, he's usually blazing through it.

Clipping diodes on the input? 1N4148's typically have a forward voltage of 1 volt, most passive guitar signals will not exceed that. Do you use a booster in front of the amp?

I use a tool similar to yours for fine polishing of frets. The handle is made out of scrap maple, but rather than filing the fret shape into the wood itself I've fitted it for inserts and use old toothbrush handles - the clear acrylic kind - for the inserts.

I got no complaints with the style of playing - it's a freakin Stratotone clone and that's a pretty specific market niche. My only grip is the distortion - it's a bit over the top, almost like a ring modulator on the bass strings. I would like to hear some clean(er) sounds.

It was the old bandshell at the University of Florida in Gainesville (built from the donated roof of an old Howard Johnson's)

IIRC it was torn down last year.
