I think it's because it's considerably easier to program a site where everyone is running on one basic homepage. The new homepage has less data on it, making it even easier to program then before. Honestly, I think it's fucking pitiful. I remember I was raging back in 2009/10 when they made us switch from the old type of channel to the one we consider old now.

The new channel designs aren't intuitive at all, and make no sense. Nothing is more efficient or easier to do, just jumbled and ugly.
