This Channel is dedicated to the Historical significance and the contribution of the legendary Scandinavian Mercenaries : The Varangian Order - serving for hundreds of years as the Emperor's personal Army in the Imperial Roman Byzantine Varangian Guard Units.
This Elite Order was renowned for its dedication, trustworthyness, bravery & fierceness in battle. This Order has also contributed in its own fashion, to the stability of the Byzantine Empire, sole successor of the Roman Empire.
Their Sagas are well documented from Greek & Latin Manuscripts to Runic Stones across the Scandinavian, Rus & Mediterranean Landscapes.

The Varangian Order is a History Project and it will be related to Three (3) Historical Elements :

(1) The Varangians and their services to the Roman Byzantine Emperors,
(2) The Roman Byzantine Empire where they served (Culture, Allies,Music, Military, Music, etc)
(3) Their Runic Alphabet & Runestones.

For hundreds of years, The Varangians had accumulated great Wealth, Prestige, Refined Tastes & Skills, exercised Strong Influences and added a Treasure of mythical Sagas to the world's Literature & Arts upon their return home.

Here we may view clips and experience not only the Scandinavian Tradition, but also all the Cultures the Varangians were exposed to during their trades & Travels. (Byzantine, Baltic & Rus Art. You may also hear Ancient Gothic, Byzantine & Old Roman Music - all familiar to the Varangian ears during the Middle Ages).

Another important objective of this HISTORY ORIENTED Channel is to deviate from the stereotyped "barbarian" image of the Varangian Vikings. This is done by reminding ourselves that the Varangian Guard served in the ideal Geopolitical location in the Middle Ages. They lived in the area surrounding the Palace of the Emperors of the wealthiest, mightiest and most Culturally endowed city in the Middle Ages: the Greek City of Constantinople - (Mikligaror or The Great City as the Varangians called it) - which was the capital of the Roman Byzantine Empire -

The last of The Varangian Guards, fell in Constatinople, fighting next to a Christian coalition of Greeks, Normans, Venetians & Genoese garissons, in a joint Battle against 200,000 Turks.
All Varangian Guards died on the "Last Day of Rome", protecting the dead body of Emperor Constantine XI.
The date: May 29th, 1453.

From this day onwards, the Flower of a Medieval Christian Empire ceased to exist, and an era of Destruction & widespread " Tyrkjaránið " began from the Hordes of an inferior turkic culture, (which left behind nothing but destruction)
