About TheStrumettes's channel
Hi,
And welcome to the Strumettes Channel.
The Strumettes were an all girl band whose concept was Mothers in Rock. They played in pubs and clubs in the late eighties, early nineties, in Wollongong and Sydney. With songs like I Don't Need A Man, Street Kids, Natural Beauty Queen and many more comic and political songs written by Vee Malnar and Kathy Cox, who also sang and played instruments in the band.
Other members included Amanda Townsend, Denise Thomas, Mary-Anne Cornford, Shana Rowe and Melinda Wishardt.
This band of housewives, mothers and uni students collaborated to create a theme of music that reflected their domestic lives, and rehearsals were often with children in tow. The stage was set with a laundry basket and ironing board, and themes of motherhood, housework and domesticity were woven into the lyrics.
In later years Izzy Foreal joined as bass player, and George Babich joined on guitar. And they also recorded many songs with Mainstreet Studios.
