i watch seasons 1 through 3, and there are so many mysterious things that are left unexplained, leaves me with a lot of questions and very little answers, it's really frustrating. So i lost interest in it and stopped watching it.

This side quest reminds me of The Milgram Experiment in which measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience, a topic I studied in Psychology.
