You want to know my name? I'll tell you my name.
My name is Denny Colt , and though I may seem like a normal guy on the outside. I'm not.
Several years ago I was a cop. I worked for the Central City police department. It was my life's dream to be a cop, to help make this world a little better. One day, I was shot down and killed by a group a gangsters. My girlfriend Ellen Dolan , daughter of Commissioner Dolan , was devastated. We had dreamed of a life together but that was destroyed when I died.
However, there was a man called " The Octopus" a powerful and evil scientist who worked at the local mortuary in Central city. At the time he had build up a large drug trade and was secretly a very powerful man. But that wasn't enough for him. He wanted something no man had, immortality. He had tested out his " cyrum " on stray animals, dogs and cats, when he thought he got it down he needed a test subject. On the day the brought my body in he knew he had his man.
My next life began that same night. I woke in my grave and panicked. I dug myself out . i took a walk, I had a think, and I went to visit an old friend Commissioner Dolan.
We made a deal. I would work for him, I would do what they wouldn't let cops do I would go where they wouldn't let cops go, I would track down the villains of Central city and bring them to justice. I would be the city's protector, its Spirit. That's what they called me " the Spirit "
I encountered the octopus, I found out what he had done to me, and I destroyed him.
Several years later I was ambushed by mysterious figures, knocked out and brought to New York city. There I met a cast if interesting characters including Rorschach from a group called " The Watchmen". i am now part of that group.
