Many years ago a small group of retired mid ranking military officers and several dozen retired mid ranking administers within the Galactic Empire
formed a transport guard group to facilitate the ability of merchants to travel across the universe without having to worry about being molested
by pirate raids or the occasional rough militia unit.
With their pooled knowledge of both the trade routes and the ability to bypass bureaucratic red tape they gained a reputation for getting people,
goods and information from one end of the galaxy to the other at speeds that were considered imposable.
An historian who had found records in an ancient civilizations collections of stories compared this transport group to a short lived but quiet inventive
information transport group that had been called "The Pony Express" apparently named after the mythological animals spoken of in today's children's fairy tales.
This title stuck in the press so the Transport Group's controlling board decided for the sake of simplicity, and due to the fact that so many were now referring to
them as "The Space Ponies", to place an Image of a Pony on the top of each document issued by the Transport Group as well as marking their ships with nose art.
The colors of the various ships nose art informed the dock observers as to what type of transport the ship specialized in and what cargo one could expect to find attached to the manifest.
