@Minus42Zero We see the same device on the L.F. fender of the WW2 Kubelwagen. My guess is some kind of low-signature light. The 'helmet' would make it very hard to see from the air. In many places the Wehrmacht was, in WW2, aircraft overhead in the dark were as likely hunting Germans as not.
