Mysterious Light & Prodigy Movies production of psychological thriller The Reef has commenced pre-production at Sydneys Fox Studios.
Based on a true story, The Reef follows four friends whose boat capsizes on the Great Barrier Reef. Forced to swim to land & safety, they are stalked by a relentless 15-foot great white shark.
The cast includes some of Australia's hottest talent including Damian Walshe-Howling (Underbelly, Blue Heelers), Zoe Naylor (McLeods Daughters), Gyton Grantley (Underbelly), Adrienne Pickering (Knowing, Out Of The Blue) and Kieran Darcy-Smith (Animal Kingdom, The Square).
Filming will commence in October on location in Hervey Bay in Queensland.
The film will feature live footage of great white sharks, shot in South Australia. Intent on producing a realistic, terrifying film, no CGI or animatronic models will be used these sharks are the real deal!
As part of the unique marketing for the film, The Reef will offer a world first opportunity with live web streaming of the making of the film as it happens. This concept will give viewers a unique insight into the making of a feature film, usually reserved for DVD extras. The stream will be 100% live and un-edited, commencing Thursday November 5. The Reef is produced by Trauckis Mysterious Light company and Michael Robertson of Prodigy Movies. International sales are being handled by Lightening Entertainment out of the US.
Traucki & Robertson were behind 2007s successful feature Black Water, released in over 76 territories worldwide and nominated for 2 AFIs among others.
