@MrNativeDancer Zenyatta was a wonderful horse, but she never raced more than 1 1/4 miles, and most of her races were 1 1/8 and 1 1/16. Another horse that comes to mind is Goldikova, but "Goldy" was a miler, which really limited her racing "choices" in the USA. You and I have much more than a "...

Some absolutely ridiculous comments in here from people who don't know a damn thing about horse racing, including the owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses. "Apologize" for WHAT? An accident that happens a few times a year during the THOUSANDS of horse races that are run every year around the w...

@DarkNinjaXD I have deep admiration for Secretariat also. My "man cave" has a large section dedicated to Secretariat and other thoroughbreds. I was in high school when Secretariat broke the 25 year jinx and won the Triple Crown in 1973. I will NEVER forget his 2:24 record time in the Belmont, ...

Wonderful tribute to some great racehorses. As for the question of what racehorse is the "greatest" of all time, there are so many variables it is really hard to say. If you look at race times at equal distances, Secretariat is the greatest ever. I don't count the European turf horses in any d...

Secretariat had a white diamond-shaped area on his forehead, with a white line trailing down from the diamond. Secretariat also had three socks (white, of course). Rainaway is a beautiful horse, but he really doesn't resemble Secretariat that much.

All you have to do is CHECK THE TIMES in the Triple Crown races. Secretariat beats Affirmed by about 17 lengths in the Belmont. Secretariat comfortably beats Affirmed and Seattle Slew in all three Triple Crown races.

Even at 12 years old, you can see the power and the magnificance of Secretariat. You can also see that he enjoyed getting attention.

@mjcamck Very well stated. Barbaro was CHAMPION. He lived as a champion, and he died as a champion. His name will always be on the Kentucky Derby winners list. He died doing what he loved to do, and his legacy will live forever.
