The Legion of Super-Heroes is a fictional superhero team that appears in comic books published by DC Comics and was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. The team is the premiere super hero group in the 31st century.

First appearing in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958), the Legion originally consisted of Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Lightning Lad. The three founded the Legion after being inspired by the heroics of Superman. The team met and befriended a young Superman when he was still Superboy in Smallville through the use of time-travel. Aside from the intial three, many other heroes from various planets have been on the Legion's roster including Brainiac 5, Bouncing Boy, Timber Wolf, Triplicate Girl, Both the Pre and Post Crisis Versions of Superboy and Supergirl, Starboy, Phantom Girl, and dozens of others. The team had many adventures with Superboy in Action Comics before receiving its own comic book title in February 1973, which ran for four issues until May of the same year. Throughout the years, various incarnations or subsections of the team have operated as L.E.G.I.O.N., Legionnaires, The Legion, Legion Academy, Legion of Substitute Heroes, Wanderers, and Legion Lost.

Various comic book series featuring the League have remained popular enough with fans since inception allowing them to remain on store selves. Due to the Legion existing in the future of the DC universe, the team has been rebooted several times as the mainstream DC timeline has changed. Each of these time the team has maintained many of the same members as the first, but with some major to minor changes to the characters names, appearances, personalities, and powers. The Legion has also been adapted into various other entertainment media, such as guest appearances on Superman the Animated Series (1994-1995) and Justice League Unlimited (2004-2006), before eventually receiving their own series called Legion of Super Heroes in September 2006 which ran for 2 seasons until April 2008. Their only live action appearance to date is their appearances on the series Smallville in the show's eighth season.
