To clear things up, if you have official firmware and you want custom firmware:
If your firmware is above 2.00 you need a pandora's battery to get CFW, you can buy a battery with a memory stick that haa the custom firmware you want on it, just specify.

For FW 2.00 and below you need to downgrade to 1.50 using downgraders easily obtained from the internet, then get the upgrade from darkalex and follow the tutorial in my favourites
