The Ventures were not a surf band. That is a common misconception. If you look at their entire body of work, surf music was a minuscule part of it. Check out their early stuff before 1964 and then check everything since '68. They covered all the contemporary genres, as well as classical music...

These guys should have been in the very first R&R HoF induction. It's a crime it took so long for them to be recognized. Mel Taylor was one of the best R&R drummers of his era. Nokie Edwards is very under-rated. He can play any style. Don Wilson and Bob Bogle fill out one of the best line-up...

I was fortunate enough to jam with Danny and Don Celenza a few months ago at an open mic jam. Two incredible musicians. What a voice, Danny. Don's got some serious chops and is proficient in guitar, keyboard, bass and drums. Hell he may even play a Sousaphone for all I know. Danny is awesome...
