Mickie was sorta fired in a way. It was unclear why but WWE didn't want her to never return because of her skills and popularity. So they said creative had nothing for her. But the day of her release internet leaks said she was bugging other workers. So WWE is still interested and So is Mickie. I think we will see her again. She is hall of fame bound anyway. Maybe WWE has over used her in a way one more title and she would be pretty much better than Trish Stratus... They might have realized that and made that decision to give her time off. but She is on the WWE Alumni list so she is welcomed back...
