We must train the brain to be the Ultimate Bullshit Detector (UBD).
About Me:
* IQ - 155 + (hit the ceiling of 155 on a verbal analogies IQ test)
* favorite villains - The Joker from the Dark Knight, and Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds
* religion - none (agnostic)
* political affiliation - none
* stance on drugs - legalize all drugs
* stance on gay marriage - the government doesn't belong in marriage, gay or straight
* stance on prostitution - legalize it!
* stance on alcohol - lower drinking age to 18!
* stance on war - war should be a LAST resort
* stance on healthcare - when you pay for healthcare out of your pocket, instead of having it subsidized by government, you have a greater incentive to adopt a healthful lifestyle and diet
* stance on capital punishment - support it in principle, but oppose it in practice
* stance on discrimination in the private sector - business owners morally have a right to deny service to anyone or any group of people, for whatever reason (or no reason), whether it's based on race, religion, sex, height, skin color, national origin, ethnicity, etc.
* stance on 'purist' grammar - grammar is a human construct - as opposed to logic - that allows us to communicate with relative ease, but it isn't sacrosanct. Grammar rules are in fact grammar guidelines, and clarity of exposition is sometimes better achieved by bending or breaking the rules.
* stance on the proper role of government - the government's chief role is to protect the rights of individuals and to protect individuals from the unjustified initiation of force and from unjustified harm that may not necessarily stem from the use of force, but which may be the result of reckless, irresponsible behavior. For example, the government has a legitimate role in fining people whose behavior leads to the degradation of our environment, thereby endangering the health of other people. If you want to self-destruct, you should be free to do so, but in so doing, you don't have a right to harm others.
* stance on so-called 'fair' competition - competition is inherently unfair. For example, it's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it's also true that a majority of men behold the same beauty. That is, Natalie Portman is not objectively more beautiful than Ugly Betty, but I think it's safe to assume that if both were competing for a shot to grace the cover of a modelling magazine, Portman would win hands down. Is it fair that Natalie Portman had an advantage from the beginning because she was born with a genotype that resulted in a phenotype that more men consider attractive?
* stance on Stephen Hawking - Stephen Hawking is a brilliant expositor of his ideas about the nature of reality, and the origin of the Universe, but he's an over rated physicist. His book A Brief History of Time is a model of pop scientific prose. In the introduction to his recently co-authored book The Grand Design, Hawking claims that philosophy is dead. This is debatable, but what is certain is that not too long from now, we will be reading in an introduction to a philosophy book that 'Stephen Hawking is dead.' [grin]
