I'm doing the big chop soon, and I've been getting a lot of courage from my sistas on youtube vlogs. It's amazing!!! Thank you ladies.I've been natural for about 7 years. I had a leisure curl (a better term for jerry curl) when I was 8 to 13 years old. I hated the leisure curl and really didn't want to enter high-school with the curl, so I wore braids almost all my high-school life, 4 years. In between those years, I had permed my hair and wore it short. Rocked a weave....you can say I was trying to find myself....teenage years. I eventually decided that I was not comfortable with either appearance and felt most comfortable wearing braids. So I wore cornrows for the last 2 years of my high-school years. This ruined my hairline. The cornrows pulled at my hairline from the root. My hairline has never truly recovered from the cornrow attack. My hairline (more to the right side of my head) is almost like baby hair and thin. So I wore braids again and met my first love, who encouraged me to wear my hair natural. Ever since I took him up on his suggestion, which was 7 years ago, I absolutely love being natural. Never once thought about perming or weaving my hair again.
So why the BIG CHOP. Because I have heat damage to the front of my hair. I wanted my hair to look extra nice for my graduation pictures, soooo I decided "why not turn the flatiron heat up higher". Not a good idea. I loved the look, but was eager to revert back to my natural hair with a nice washout. Well, my curly kinks never came back, and my hair is softer in the front than the middle.
It hurts. My hair has been in limbo for the past 4 months and I've decided that I need to start this from scratch. I decided that I need to get back to loving my hair the way I did before I entered university, 4 years ago. And I believe I may just start a hair journal on here as well.
My hair texture is different from most women that I view on here. I don't know if it's because these beautiful women take care of their hair and I don't...(That could very well be the case). But right now my hair is wirery and thick. My goal is to get a super fro like Harmony's (her channel is call FreeWorshipFreeWor'ss), although I believe her texture and thickness is different from mine. It doesn't matter all black hair is BEAUTIFUL. I believe it's just how you take care of it and love it. TLC, Tender Love and Care.
For now I'm collecting videos and once I get my own little set-up and Nursing job, then I will probably then find the courage to start a vlog. Right now I'm keeping a healthy journal, of goals of keeping fit and hair progress.
Thank you sistahs for all the support and encouragement, you truly don't know what movement you ladies have started.
Much love and Bless,
Jins
