Unbanite Art & Cultural Humanities
It has long been an observation of mines[Templ3] that there is a delicate balance in the mind of an artist. No matter your medium, your art reflects your culture, faith and personal thoughts. Visual art can be blamed for mass brainwashing if used to mislead the onlooker...however, that same image can uplift and empower another standing next to you. Music, you will rightfully agree, is perhaps the most influential of the arts. Many cultures use music as a form of worship, lamentation and celebration. It has a vibe, a magnetism, music can tell you how your feeling when you can't find the words. It can get your mind to a passionate place where you feel safe enough to propose to your lover and it can push you to a point in your reasoning where violence seems to be the just response to an injustice. Dancers, writers, sculptures and designers of all kinds are able to manifest their visions. Artist are blessed but society rarely considers the artist serious and The Arts have remained an underestimated profession.
Herein lies a danger.
There is a great number of "Starving Artist".This term is often followed by a chuckle. What part of the starvation is funny? The suppression of an individuals perspective? The individuals struggle to communicate clearly their true self? Their lack of conformity or mastery of skill? Their under payment or lack of pay? Is it the fact that artist often create too fast to contemplate copyright? Is it the rate at which artist are exploited? Or what a sister will sell to get her tuition money for dance school...who a brother may kill to pay for a few hours in the studio?
There is a delicate balance in the mind of an artist because their is a delicate balance in the streets of the ghettos where many artist live. A delicate segment of the population can find it's tipping point early on Monday morning after loosing their truest MC and can shift the balance of their city from pride to prejudice. The delicate pen of an poet can blend the blood of a Prophet into the oral tradition of a nation after finding him dead in a building hallway.
Samurai often mastered calligraphy...
Christ, a wood carver, conquered death and the grave...
Art therapy is often recommended to soothe our "savagery"...
...but "everywhere is war"....
