This song just proves that anarchism existed before 1965, and will always be a testament to the insane genius of American rock and roll. It hit top 40 radio like bomb in days when conformity meant everything. To hear it now is not to understand the full impact it had then.

I'm not much of a country fan, but I sure am a Marty Robbins fan. Great voice, great writer. He did not write "Strawberry Roan", it is a true cowboy folk song, but so what. Nobody did it better, and nobody has since. "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" is one of the great albums of all time....

All the bands mentioned were extremely commercial. They were also very very good. The Animals had quite deep lyrics for the time, far deeper than the Beatles, who soon followed them in this regard. The Animals also had some great musicians who never got the credit that they deserved. Eric Burd...
