I think the music is more ominous than mysterious. Although it's called the Forest Temple, and it is in the forest, the temple itself seemed to be an old castle. And the castle theory explains the stalfos and the poes. Plus, the voices in the music make me think of some kind of warriors in battle...

The icy side music isn't faster, the melody is just more precisely on the downbeats. The articulation of the trumpet just has the note starting on the downbeat, but sliding in so the loudest part of the note is later in the beat.
