Bio:

Violinist Francesca Bass is already achieving recognition as an emerging young artist. Currently in her 10th year as a student in the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division, she is a student of Aza Raykhtsaum and Anait Arutunian. In October 2010 Francesca appeared in Jordan Hall on the national radio program, "From the Top", performing Zigeunerwiesien by Sarasate with pianist Christopher O'Reilly. Francesca won First Prize in the 2008 Connecticut International Young Artist Competition. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with three local orchestras. In 2010 Francesca performed the Wienawski Concerto No. 2 with the New Philharmonia Orchestra in Newton under conductor Ronald Knudsen, and again in 2011 performing Mozart's Violin Concerto no. 4; in 2009 Francesca performed in the Vivaldi Concerto for Four Violins with the New England String Ensemble at Jordan Hall under conductor Federico Cortese; and in 2011 she performed the Saint Saens Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra under conductor Cynthia Woods. Other performance highlights include an appearance with Yo-Yo Ma and Lynn Chang for the 2006 Deval Patrick gubernatorial inauguration, and performances of Latin and Celtic music with the group Classical Tangent, which includes members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Formerly concertmaster of the Youth Symphony at New England Conservatory, she is currently a member of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Benjamin Zander. In June 2011 she toured central Europe as a member of YPO performing six concerts in Prague, Bratislava and Vienna. In 2010 she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and performed as concertmaster of the Young Artists Orchestra in Ozawa Hall. At BUTI she also played in a master class for world-renowned violinist Pinchas Zuckerman. An active chamber musician since the age of seven, Francesca attended the BUTI String Quartet Workshop in 2010 and in 2011 attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Francesca began her violin studies at the age of four with Lilia Muchnik. She is now 16 years old and about to enter her junior year at Brookline High School.
