Frank I want to thank you for putting up these videos, I have an interest in making and learning how to play Pai Sho. It looks like a beautiful game both physically and strategically. One comment to make, it would be extremely useful, at least to me any way, if a video was made demonstrating the moves and powers of the pieces on the game board; including how the are first put on, how they move, what there powers are, how they capture other pieces, and how the form harmonies/disharmonies.

my staff is around 7ft tall with a wing span of 6ft. i can get you better measurements later... but i think the main staff part is like 1 inch by 1.5 inches the small wing pieces are about 12 inches and it only opens 45 degrees. the large wing peices are a little over 3 ft because the pivot points are in the middle of the staff. both upper and lower wing peices are about 1/8 inch thick and 1/4 of an inch in width. hope this helps you get started.

yea, send me the rules, that would be great! i might make my own pai sho board later... i just used standard rubber bands from walmart. there about a quarter inch by three inch when not stretched. they work pretty good but i have to use about 6 for each side... if you can find stronger rubber bands that might be better

yes i have... dont know how to play tho, just watched your vid. and it looks great!

Ive also looked at springs to open the wings when i was building, but i went with rubber bands because they are cheap, and easy to replace. my dad and i did some quick calculations and figured that using just two springs you would need them to hold 90 punds each. plus the cost of those types of springs aren't ideal for the project...( just in my opinion, i try to do projects cheaply) go ahead and try it if you think you can get it to work... and no im not gonna brag, others have asked me for How To's and stuff but i dont have time to make one right now. im glad you've been able to figure most of it out just by watching my vids.

hey, thanks for watching my vids... in response to your question, during construction i wanted to test the wings to make sure they would open. so i tied the individual pieces together with string in a way so that they would pull each other to the proper positions. however i did not tie the bottom wing piece to the staff which is why it bounces. i used rubber bands on the top piece of each side to open the staff and when the fabric is applied, it will pull the other 3 pieces out. hope this answers your question... if you have any more dont hesitate to ask... and please post a video of it when your finished... i would like to see how it turns out.
