Since its historic beginnings in 1986, Family Gateway has served over 8,300 children and 4,300 families experiencing homelessness. Key to Family Gateway's success are the programs in place designed to break the cycle of homelessness through education, counseling, housing, clothing, tutoring, medical care and social activities focused both on parents and children.

Parents are empowered by participating in job readiness classes, job search and placement assistance, customer service training and community transition services, maintaining contact with Family Gateway staff for one year after exiting the residential program. Children benefit from counseling, play therapy, social and educational activities and a dedicated computer lab.

Family homelessness is a devastating condition that plagues every city in the United States and currently, even though we have an outstanding network of non-profit agencies for homeless children, families, youth, and young adults in Dallas, our system is overwhelmingly strained by the loss of jobs and homes in addition to the generational impact.
