About TheEraMusic's channel
The Era are a four-piece band from Marlow, Buckinghamshire. They formed in June 2009. The band's sound has been described as indie rock although the band themselves are unsure of the tag. They share musical influences from many era's, (no pun intended ;) ) for example: The Beatles and The Doors from the 1960s, The Smiths and The Stone Roses from the 1980s and bands like Nirvana, Blur, Oasis and Radiohead from the 1990s. The band are also influenced by current bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian.
BIography so far:
From their formation in June 2009 the band spent eight months creating their sound, writing songs such as 'Do Androids Dream?' and 'Broken.'
They also chose 'Helter Skelter' by The Beatles and 'Ziggy Stardust' by David Bowie as covers.
The band played their first gig in February 2010 at their annual school 'Rock Night.'
Initially the band struggled to find gigs due to their age and a lack of demos.
In 2010 they played just two other gigs, another 'Rock Night' and a charity event.
During this time however, a songwriting partnership between Jack Baxter and Adam Pizey began to develop. Determined to make quicker progress and write new songs, the duo's first effort became 'Not Much Longer.'
In 2011, the band set out with a clear goal in mind. Towards the end of 2010 they had recorded 'Not Much Longer' and 'Broken' at Rhoom Studios near Reading. Making these tracks available for free download, the band gained recognition and finally had a demo to submit to venues.
In January 2011 the band played two gigs, one at Norden Farm (a 250 capacity venue) and one at Marlow Rugby Club.
They played new songs 'You Said' and 'Not Much Longer' and also played new cover 'I Predict A Riot' by the Kaiser Chiefs. Amongst the new songs 'Do Androids Dream?' and 'Broken' featured.
In February they played in Heat 2 of Maidenhead BOTB and got through to the semi-finals on the judges vote. This article was published in the Maidenhead Advertiser concerning the heat:http://www.maidenhead-advertiser.co.uk/leisure/article-
The band were praised for their "polished, professional approach to their music, which is rare in such a young band."
The band were also described as "a cut above."
The band did not progress to the final of the competition but learned valuable lessons from the process.
The band played one of their best sets to date at the first ever Marlow Regatta gig on June 12th 2011. The recordings are available to listen to here:http://soundcloud.com/the_era/tracks
In the summer the band plan to take a break and then move into the recording studio to record an EP before commencing gigging once again in the autumn.
