The Symphony No. 5 in C sharp minor by was composed in 1901 and 1902, mostly during the summer months at Mahler's cottage at Maiernigg. Among its most distinctive features are the funereal trumpet solo that opens the work and the frequently performed Adagietto.
The musical canvas and emotional scope of the work, which lasts over an hour, are huge. After its premiere, Mahler is reported to have said, "Nobody understood it. I wish I could conduct the first performance fifty years after my death." Conductor Herbert von Karajan said that when one hears Mahler's Fifth, "you forget that time has passed. A great performance of the Fifth is a transforming experience. The fantastic finale almost forces you to hold your breath."
The symphony is sometimes described as being in the key of C♯ minor since the first movement is in this key (the finale, however, is in D). Mahler objected to the label: "From the order of the movements (where the usual first movement now comes second) it is difficult to speak of a key for the 'whole Symphony', and to avoid misunderstandings the key should best be omitted."

I am travelling with a sprig of basil herb in this land so full of dreams I am travelling with Homer and his verse in the hubbub of my days In rotting towns with empty shops and through ruins burned and charred I am travelling over oceans deep and wide with Elytis and Gatsos by my side I'm travelling as our days are getting worse with sad pining in Makriyianni's eyes Amid the fury of the universe and this anarchy on earth while my heart is bound with ropes I am travelling when the signs of youth long gone are streaking through my hair I am travelling -- my companions are Greece and the light that drives me on.

Greece, our beautiful country with its incredible natural beauty and cultural inheritance. The ancient Greek civilisation was a unique and unprecedented event in history. It offered humanity the basis of science and democracy. Obviously no civilisation is in a leading position for ever, but few have made such an important contribution. An additional and major aspect is that the same country where the ancient Greeks lived and created is readily accessible to this day. We continue to find in the Greek lands the same places and features that Homer, Sophocles and Plato themselves surveyed. The Greek language is represented in literature without a break from 8th century BC until today. No other human language offers such rich literature for study stretching over such a long period of history. _________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________ Δίσκος: Αργοναύτες-1998

Completed in 1955 after nine months of work, Salvador Dalí's painting The Sacrament of the Last Supper has remained one of his most popular compositions. Since its arrival at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 1955, it replaced Renoir's A Girl with a Watering Can as the most popular piece in the museum.
The combination of a classic Christian theme with the jarring techniques of Surrealism captures the eye... The composition was laid out using the Golden Ratio. ------- by Alicia7777777 / made in Wonderland ;)

ALBUM AVAILABLE TO ORDER HERE: http://links.emi.com/Peacemakers ... The Peacemakers, a brand new choral work composed by Karl Jenkins and a sequel to his best-selling work The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, offers inspiration and solace for a time in need of both. It features texts from some of the greatest peacemakers throughout history, including Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Anne Frank and Mother Teresa, as well as words from the Bible and the Qur'an with some new text specially written by Terry Waite.
The London Symphony Orchestra is joined by different vocal forces including Rundfunkchor Berlin, the City of Birmingham Youth Chorus, and the 1000-strong "The Really Big Chorus" made up of members of UK choirs from across the country brought together in one day, in one studio, to contribute to two movements on the album. Guest artists include violinist Chloë Hanslip, soprano Lucy Crowe, Davy Spillane on Uilleann pipes, Indian bansuri (ethnic flute) player Ashwin Srinivasan and jazz greats Nigel Hitchcock and Laurence Cottle.
