FAQ

1. Do you write your own arrangements and compositions?
Yes! Almost everything that we play, classical or pop, one of us has arranged. (We always list who the composer or arranger is under the video description - so look there if you're wondering!)

2. How do you arrange music?
There are different ways to go about arranging music, depending on what you're comfortable with. The four of us have come up with our own arranging techniques, but they generally fall into two categories: (1) arrange the music by ear (listen to a recording over and over again, and use the piano or another instrument to help you figure it out - we often do this for pop songs) or (2) look at a score and transcribe/arrange for new instrumentation (we have found this particularly useful for classical works).

3. Where can I find your arrangements? All of the arrangements that we currently have rights for can be found on our website, at: www.thebreakingwinds.com.

4. How old were you when you started to play the bassoon? Brittany and Kara started to play the bassoon in 6th grade, Yuki started on clarinet in 4th grade and switched to bassoon in 8th grade, and Lauren started bassoon in 4th grade.

5. Is it hard to play and dance at the same time? Yes. Playing the bassoon and moving around is a workout. It has taken us a long time to feel comfortable moving around with bassoons, and if we don't do it for a while, we need to get back in shape!
